The Journey Behind

Barry lost his wife about a year ago, so he was living in his house by himself. He had lived in the location for over 40 years. The house was a 3 bedroom with 2 bath home that was completely flooded by Helene.  He is currently living in a trailer.

The Aftermath

Barry’s current home is over an acre and is located right on the river. The house has been condemned and the County will not allow a new house to be built (or the current home remodeled) in the current location and there is not enough higher ground for a new house site.

Holding on, Moving Forward

When we talked to Barry, he reminisced that his land was a lovely setting before the flood!  Barry wants to remain in the area since he is in his upper 70’s and all his friends live in the South Toe River area.

Barry ‘s new home will be on high ground above the South Toe River.
