With all that is happening there remains so much work to be undertaken to assist families affected by the hurricane. The extent of the damage assessment indicates that approximately 73,000 to 100,000 homes across 36 counties in Western North Carolina require major repairs or complete replacement. It is noteworthy that as of November 6, 2025, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has allocated over $849 million in Helene-specific funds to North Carolina. However, the North Carolina State recovery office reports that as of November 6, 2025 only approximately 11% of the estimated $60 billion in damage caused by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina has been covered by federal aid. Furthermore, it is crucial to acknowledge that only a limited percentage, ranging from 7 to 8%, of the affected families had adequate flood insurance coverage.
