Today is Day 282 Post Hurricane Helene.

I had not planned to post on the blog today, but something very special happened.

My nine-year-old grandson, FDR, wanted to know about the work that Grace By Example, other organizations, groups, churches, and volunteers were doing in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

I showed him videos and pictures like the ones presented in this post. He wanted to know what had happened to the families’ homes damaged by the flooding.  He wanted to know about good things happening to them.  He asked some profoundly deep servant’s heart questions. He was able to see through the pictures and the videos of the “service before self-attitude” that organizations, churches, and individuals were and are demonstrating on a daily basis.

He understands that this will be a very long, arduous recovery for these families.  I was able to share with him stories about people who have demonstrated great faith, resilience, and determination in the face of severe adversity.  Also, I was able to share the stories of the grace of Americans for one another that permeate the mountain communities of WNC.  A truly special moment.  It is quite fitting on July 4th to be able to share with your grandson the kindness and the “ service before self” attitude of so many people in this country.  Happy July Fourth!

Take care.
